The Negroes are so prond of the school that they call it the "College". It was named for a negro farmer in the community who was not satisfied with the old log house shown at the left." An additional note identifies the "Cost of school $2150. Negroes $500. Public 1150. The Fund 500. Has classroom, a community room, two cloak rooms, two sanitary privies. The school is equipped with modern desks. SL."

We broke the car in trying to get to the school. When I asked permission to take the picture she gladly consented. Then she asked if we had been over to "see our college." The school is making over this community, even though it is just a "one-teacher" school. S.L.S."
