School Fund
From 1912–1932, the Rosenwald Fund partnered with communities and states to construct over 5,000 schools, teacher homes, and libraries—expanding educational access and strengthening public education during an era of segregation.
Fellowship Fund
The Rosenwald Fund awarded nearly 900 fellowships and numerous scholarships for graduate study between 1928 and 1948. Applications—granted and declined—contain project proposals, recommendations, and officer correspondence documenting rigorous review and remarkable talent.
Photographs and Clippings
The Rosenwald Fund’s photographic collection goes beyond schools, preserving images of meetings, events, and travels. Taken by Fund staff, these photographs reveal how programs were administered and how communities engaged with the Fund’s work.
Administrative
Based in Chicago with Edwin R. Embree as president, and a Nashville office directing the Rural School Program, the Fund’s administrative files capture how leadership, correspondence, and reports shaped education, health, and cultural initiatives.
Rosenwald Family
The Rosenwald Family archives include letters, photographs, and biographical materials documenting personal experiences, travels, and family roles in philanthropy. These records illuminate how family members contributed to the Rosenwald Fund and broader charitable initiatives.
Studies and Publications
This section features reports, correspondence, and statistical data from Rosenwald-supported studies in public health, social services, and education. These records reveal how the Fund gathered evidence to guide grants, improve programs, and influence policy.
