Photo shows an unidentified school in New Madrid, Missouri with a handwritten note on the back that says "A one-room rural Negro school in New Madrid Co. being used this year. Small windows on both sides and in front of the pupils. When I saw this in Aug., the floor was in a dangerous condition for the 200 pound body teacher. It has been repaired. School is closed 6 weeks for cotton picking. Half the pupils are not supplied with books - those they do have are largely discarded, worn books from white schools. Mr Hariell inspecting"
