McKenney School
School card from Rosenwald Fund for McKenney School in Dinwiddie County, Virginia with notes on the card. First note says, "Two room shop at this school". Second note says, "Bldg burned March 5, 1925 with only $1,000 builder's ins collected. [unclear] was planning to take out $3,500, but had [unclear] policy though. The Fund will give over No [unclear] 1100 - 217 Exp. in No. 1 on $883". Third note says, "Burned evening of March 5, 1925. Insurance collected $1,000.00 (over)." The back of the card says, "at the time the building burned the construction was completed and the contractor was painting it. There was a builder's insurance of $1,000 on the building. This amount had not been increased at the time of the fire because the building had not been officially accepted by the school board. It was our plan to adjust the insurance to $3,500 at this time the building was officially turned over by the [unclear] teachers. The only insurance collected on the building was the $1,000.
