A news article included on the back of the school card, "Elloree, S.C., Under Curfew After Negro Buildings Burn." The article says, "Elloree, S.C., Feb. 13.--Mayor E. E. Gasque today invoked a curfew law here following the burning of two Negro school buildings and a Negro church and a subsequent threat to burn another church. Any person on the streets between midnight and 5 A. M. will be subject to arrest. A note, a bottle of gasoline and several matches were found on the steps of the Negro Methodist Church yesterday. The note said that if Arthur Daniels, principal of the Negro High School, did not leave Elloree, the church would be burned. The Negro Central School building burned Jan. 9 and the Negro Industrial School building on Jan. 19. An attempt to burn the Negro Methodist Church Jan. 25 was frustrated, but several days later the Negro Baptist Church was burned. The two churches were used as school buildings after the burnings. Governor Blackwood sent a State constable to investigate the fires, but no arrests have been made."
