Description
Correspondence in the form of a telegram between Alfred K. Stern and S.L. Smith of the Julius Rosenwald Fund, dated October 22, 1930, approving a scholarship grant of 500 dollars for Miss Gladys Bassett. Documents also include an internal scholarship record sheet which states the grant was for one school year at George Peabody College. According to the record, Miss Bassett, a teacher of English at the Wilson, Arkansas, high school, was pursuing graduate work and intended to use the grant to expand a study for her thesis on what reading materials were used by African Americans in several counties.
