A letter sent to Mr. Frank Hariott on May 6, 1947 informing he had been awarded a grant from the Julius Rosenwald Fund, and the letter requested Mr. Hariott's response to accepting the fellowship. Also included is a press release where Mr. Edwin R. Embree announced 39 fellowships were awarded in 1947, of which there are 23 Negro fellows and 16 White Southerner fellows. A few candidates were mentioned along with their future prospects, Mr. Ulysses Kay, Mr. Hariott, Ms. Mary E. Robbs, Mr. Julian Dempsey, Mr. Louise Phillip Clark, Mr. Charles Farris, Mr. Thomas O. Zuber, Mr. David Calvin Kytle, Mr. George C. Stoney, and Mr. John W. Lipscomb. Others were listed in a list of fellowships granted to Negro and White Southerner candidates.
