A letter sent to Dr. Charles S. Johnson from Mrs. Ruby F. Lane on May 8, 1947 requesting his signature to approve an enclosed list of fellows awarded in 1947. The letter was also sent to Mr. Edwin R. Embree, Mr. Will W. Alexander, Mr. Arna Bontemps, Mr. Gould Beech, Mr. Charles H. Thompson, and Mr. Robert C. Weaver. Negro candidates include Mr. Clyde Ruffin Dillard, Mr. Frank Harriott, Mr. Robert E. Hayden, Mr. Edward Warner Brice, and others. White Southern candidates include Mr. Martin Lionel Dibner, Mr. Thomas Hal Phillips, Mr. Lloyd P. Williams, Mr. James Allen Tower, Mr. Thomas O. Zuber, and others.
