A press release by Mr. Edwin Embree on May 12, 1944 announcing that 37 Rosenwald fellows were chosen, 22 Negro fellows and 15 White Southerners for a total of 78,100 dollars. Ms. Margaret Walker, Mr. James Pipe Register, Mr. Hale Woodruff, and Mr. E. Franklin Frazier were highlighted, as well as their prospective projects. Negro fellows listed include, Ms. Thelma D. Ackiss, Dr. J. Edmond Bryant, Ms. Margaret Burns Bush, Ms. Gladys Elizabeth Childress, Ms. Leslie Morgan Collins, Ms. Esther Victoria Cooper, Ms. Eldzier Cortor, Mr. Joseph Henry Douglass, Mr. E. Franklin Frazier, Ms. Naomi Mills Garrett, Mr. James Albert Gibbs, Jr., Mr. Adelaide Cromwell Hill, Mr. Mozell C. Hill, Mr. Chester Bomar Himes, Mr. Rayford W. Logan, Mr. Pauli Murray, Ms. Dorothy Burnett Porter, Ms. Dorothy Margarette Reed, Ms. Margaret Abigail Walker, Ms. Dorothy Gwendolyn Williams, Mr. Theodore Wilbur Winchester, and Mr. Hale A. Robertson, Ms. Anna Greene Smith, Mr. Mary Cecilia Thedieck, Mr. James Harrison Tipton, Ms. Madie Belle Ward, Ms. Olive, Elizabeth Westbrooke, Dr. Marion Marshall Young, and Ms. Hilda Jane Zimmerman.
