A press release from Julius Rosenwald Fund on May 4, 1942 announcing 56 fellwoships awarded and 16 scholarships totaling 90,000 dollars and 10, 000 dollars respectively. Mr. Edwin R. Embree mentioned that 35 Negroes and 21 White Southerners were chosen, and regarded a few fellowship holders, Ms. Marian Anderson, Mr. William Grant Still, Mr. E.E. Just, Ms. Katherine Dunham, Mr. Jacob Lawrence, Mr. Allison Davis, Mr. Langston Hughes, Mr. W.E.B. DuBois, Mr. James Weldon Johnson, Mr. Harmon Caldwell, Mr. Rufus Harris, Mr. Ralph McGill, Mr. James Pope, Mr. C. Vann Woodward, Ms. Wirt Cate, Mr. Tarleton Collier, Ms. Tom Lea, and Mr. H.C. Nixon.
