A letter sent to Mr. Ulysses Simpson Kay from Mr. William C. Haygood on March 11, 1947 regarding fellowship application for Musical Composition, candidates undergo a preliminary judging by a jury of nationally known composers, so sample manuscripts or published samples had to be sent before February 15, with the the final verdict to be communicated early May. This letter was sent to Mr. George Theophilus Walker and Mr. Irwin Swack as well.
