His plan of work was to write a Doctoral dissertation on the efforts of the philanthropic foundations in the education of public school teachers in the South, which would include the activities of the Peabody, Slater, Jeanes, Rosenwald, Rockefeller, etc. organizations. The grant was sought from June 1948 through December 1948 .
