An application from Thomas Hal Phillips for a fellowship in Creative Writing. Mr. Phillips was a Graduate student in English at the University of Alabama at the time of this application. His plan of work was to write a novel about a Southerner of good will who would attempt to rectify his wrongs he had committed after he had reflected on his 62 years in the last weeks of his life. The grant was sought from June 1947 through June 1948 . The training in English would be done under the supervision of Professor Hudson Strode at the University of Alabama.
