An application from Margaret Caldwell James for a fellowship in Sociology. Mrs. James was a Student and Research assistant for the Institute for Research in Social Science, University of North Carolina at the time of this application. Her plan of work was to develop and carry out a small pilot study of media of communication as related to their accessibility to and influence on Negroes in a North Carolina community. The grant was sought from September 1947 through September 1948 . The training in Sociology would be done under the supervision of Dr. John E. Ivey, Jr. at the University of North Carolina.
