An application from Emilio Aguinaldo Lanier for a fellowship in English Language and Literature. Mr. Lanier was an Assistant professor of English at Fisk University at the time of this application. His plan of work was to complete a study with all the research material already assembled in The Idea of the Gentlemen in American Fiction, 17741830, a Study in the Origin of the National Ideals. The grant was sought from July 1946 through July 1947 . The training in English would be done under the supervision of Professors F. O. Matthiessen and Perry Miller at Pratt Howard University.
