Description
An application from John Gibbs St. Clair Drake for a fellowship in Anthropology. Mr. Drake was a Graduate student in Anthropology at the University of Chicago at the time of this application. His plan of work was to spend a year to study race and race contacts within the British Isles, an examination of the colored communities in Cardiff, Wales and Liverpool, England with reference to theoretical problems of caste and class in Western European cultures, and a study of the impact of American Negro troops and civilian personnel on the British Isles throughout the Second World War. The grant was sought from September 1946 through September 1947 . Also included is a document detailing Dr. Drake's experiences from 1931 through 1946 and the publications he produced during that period.
