Her plan of work was to write a dissertation on the history of Birmingham, Alabama, and obtain a Ph.D. degree at the University of Chicago. The grant was sought from June 1945 through June 1946 . The History training would be conducted under the supervision of Mr. Avery O. Craven at the University of Chicago.
