A letter of correspondence from Ruth M. Easterling to Mr. Edwin R. Embree written on September 12, 1936. Ms. Easterling requested for information regarding fellowships for research work, and she included a summary of her professional experience. By the time of this letter, she was working as a serologist and bacteriologist at the Veterans Administration Facility, Tuskegee, Alabama and no other means of support. She had approached Dr. Hans Zinsser, Dr. William A. Hinton, Dr. E.E. Just, Mr. G.J. Drolet, Dr. Peyton Anderson, and Dr. Charles S. Johnson for a comment on the possibilities of her work on Tuberculosis. After a talk with Dr. Johnson, she determined to complete her work in a Negro institution.
