Description
The documents contain applications for fellowships in 1941, 1942, and 1946 for Margaret Just Wormley. The applicant was granted 1,800 dollars, a one year grant, in 1941 and again in 1942 for studies in American literature, specifically a study of the Negros influence on the modern Renaissance in southern literature at Boston University, with the goal of completing work toward a Ph.D. degree. The applicant reapplied in 1946 and was granted 900 dollars to complete a project on southern creative literature towards a Ph.D. dissertation at Boston University, as well as a book for publication.  Included is a memorandum summarizing the grant awarded to the applicant for the three years, and two handwritten notes, one stating, An exceptional person weve given her two grants already in 1941 and 1943.
