The documents contain applications for fellowships in 1943, 1944, and 1945 for Hale A. Woodruff. The applicant was granted 4,800 dollars in total. 2400 dollars to execute a group of paintings on the southern Negro in 1943 and another 2,400 dollars to continue in 1944. However, the 1945 application to execute a group of woodcuts on the life of the Negro of the South was rejected with a review saying, Dont feel we should give him a third grant.
