The documents include fellowship applications from Ellis Wilson for 1943, 1947, and 1948. In 1943, the applicant requested a one-year grant to paint the Negro, his life, struggle, labor, and religious pursuits. Reapplied in 1947 for a one-year grant to travel and paint in Brazil from six to eight months, and in 1947 for a one-year grant beginning in June to depict the lives of Negroes in small agricultural and industrial communities of the south. The chosen field was Art-painting.
