The documents contain fellowship applications from Edward Buchanan Williams, dated 1940 and 1947. In 1940, the applicant requested a grant beginning in September to complete a dissertation on the problem, The Negro in Industry in the Ante Bellum South towards a Ph.D at Columbia University under the supervision of Dr. Carter Goodrich. He reapplied in 1947 for a one-year grant, beginning in September, to study Negro migration in four selected counties of the southeastern United States. For both applications, he would return to his current position as Professor of Economics at Morehouse College upon completion of the fellowship. The chosen field was Economics.
