An application from Hugh Wilbur Weston in 1946, requesting a grant for one year beginning in June to extend a European assignment for the Pittsburgh Courier to include a visit to Africa for the purpose of writing articles and gathering material for a book and for subsequent lecture series. Included is a handwritten evaluative note on the application. It assigns a grade of A and includes a brief written assessment, which concludes with the phrase “an interesting project.” Other portions of the note are present but are not fully legible.
