An application from Hortense Rollins Wells in 1944, requesting a nine month grant to make a more intensive study of preventive and remedial training as it applies to the basic skill of reading. Wishes to work toward M.S. at the University of Pennsylvania under Dr. F. M. Garver. Included is a handwritten evaluative note on the application. It assigns a grade of C and contains a brief written assessment, including the phrase “no spark shown from the testimony presented.” Other portions of the note are present but are not fully legible.
