The documents contain 1943 and 1946 fellowship applications from Willis Duke Weatherford to write a thesis, Organizability of Labor in the South with Special Reference to the Negro. This is a topic of great importance to a South which is in transition from an agricultural economy to one which is more industrial. He was given 1600 dollars in 1943 but refused it to enter war work. In 1946, he was given 1615 dollars, but it was released to accept one from the General Education Board.
