A memorandum summarizing the grant awarded to Harry Joseph Walker. The applicant was granted 1,800 dollars for 1937, and 2000 dollars in 1938 for graduate study at the University of Chicago for two quarters, and collaboration with a white graduate student Lewis Copeland of Duke University in a study of white and Negro life in a southern community Durham, N. C. towards a Ph.D. degree. In 1942, the applicant was given 1,800 dollars for a study of race conflict in a southern community at the University of Chicago towards a Ph.D. degree.
