The documents contain fellowship applications from Preston Valien for 1937 and 1939. The applicant was awarded 1,000 dollars in 1937 and an additional 1,000 dollars in 1938 to pursue courses in sociology and other studies at the University of Wisconsin, ultimately earning the degree of Doctor of Philosophy under the guidance of Dr. John L.
