The documents include 1944 and 1948 applications from Samuella Viola Totty. In 1944, the applicant requested a grant to ascertain the vocational opportunities open to Negroes in Louisiana, and other works. Reapplied in 1948 for a grant to investigate through field studies the Limitations and Possibilities of Business Education in relation to Small Business Management, leading to the Ph.D. degree in the School of Business at the University of Chicago under the supervision of the Faculty Committee appointed by Dean Cox of the School of Business. Included are handwritten evaluative notes on the application. Both assign a grade of B and contain brief written assessments on the application.
