The plan of work was to take one year's work in Opthamology at the University of Pennsylvania, then spend one year in a hospital as a resident to pick up the surgical aspect of the field. This application was submitted in 1945, and the chosen field is Medicine. Included is a handwritten note: Sounds like an excellent man. he would be preparing, of course, for higher speciality + higher income but need for Negro medical specialists is great [illegible].
