An application from J. Andrew Simmons, requesting a grant beginning July 1945. The plan of work was to develop a suggested program of education for inter-racial understanding on the secondary and adult levels, and to obtain a Doctor's degree at Columbia University under the supervision of Dr. Will French. Mr, Simmons reapplied for another grant beginning July 1946 towards attending Columbia University under the supervision of Professors W.C. Hallenbeck and Morse Cartwright. These applications were submitted in 1945 and 1946, and the chosen field is Education. Included is a memorandum summarizing the grant awarded to Mr. Simmons in 1945, as well as handwritten notes: I don't know why we gave him a grant in the first place illegible] and His over our age. Fred Wole rates him so high that illegible].
