An application from Leona Ora Schnell, requesting a grant beginning September 1943. The plan of work was to do further experimentation regarding the use of the drug colchicine - special reference to Vinca rosea, the Madagascar periwinkle - in the production of plants better suited to the Southwest, and to obtain a Ph.D. degree at Yale University under the supervision of Dr. E.W. Sinnott. This application was submitted in 1943, and the chosen field is Biology. Included is a handwritten note: Excellent candidate. But I can't see that her botanical studies illegible] within our scope.
