The plan of work was to write a dissertation studying the role of religion in the Confederate ranks to be developed through integration of fugitive literature and documentary papers, and to obtain a Ph.D. degree in History at Louisiana State University under the supervision of Dr. Bell I. Wiley. This application was submitted in 1948, and the chosen field is History. Included is a handwritten note: Evidently a good student [illegible].
