An application from George Warren Reed, Jr., requesting a grant beginning September 1946. The plan of work was to obtain a Ph.D. degree in Physical-organic Chemistry - emphasis on Nuclear Chemisty correlated with and applied to Organic Chemistry - at the University of Chicago. Mr. Reed reapplied for another grant beginning June 1948. These applications were submitted in 1946 and 1948, and the chosen field is Chemistry. Included is a memorandum summarizing the grant awarded to Mr. Reed in 1946, as well as handwritten notes: Young, sound, maybe brilliant. Top references [illegible] and Neither of his professors at Chicago seem all out. I see no call to give him a sound grant [He had one in 1946-47].
