Description
An application from Robert Ramsey, requesting a grant beginning June 1942. The plan of work was to write a novel about a White tenant farmer family in Eastern Arkansas. Mr. Ramsey reapplied for another grant beginning May 1943 towards writing a novel of the cotton country of Eastern Arkansas. These applications were submitted in 1942 and 1943, and the chosen field is Creative Writing. Included is a memorandum summarizing the grant awarded to Mr. Ramsey in 1942, as well as handwritten notes: In spite of Strode's high praise, I'm [illegible] about continuing this grant [illegible] and Excellent candidate. Especially good letters from Hudson Strode + Jack Conroy. His application is very sloppy typewriting. Bontemps puts him The top.
