An application from William Fletcher Quillian, Jr., requesting a grant beginning September 1940. The plan of work was to explore the relationship between morality and religion by a critical examination of the work of various writers on this subject, and to obtain a Ph.D. degree at Yale University under Dr. H. Richard Niebuhr. This application was submitted in 1940, and the chosen field is Religion. Included is a memorandum summarizing the grant awarded to Mr. Quillian in 1940, as well as a record of professional career and a handwritten note: Excellent record at Emory + Yale. Very unusually strong letters [illegible].
