An application from Youra Thelma Qualls, requesting a grant towards obtaining a Master of Arts degree at Radcliffe College. Ms. Qualls reapplied for another grant towards pursuing graduate courses at Radcliffe College and Harvard University leading to a Master of Arts degree. Ms. Qualls reapplied for another grant towards obtaining a Ph.D. degree in History of American Civilization at Radcliffe College under the supervision of Professor Kempton. Ms. Qualls reapplied for another grant beginning September 1943 towards studying the sociological concepts of regionalism leading to a doctoral thesis Local Color of the Nineteenth Century and Regionalism of Today, while working under Mr. K.B. Murdock. These applications were submitted in 1939 through 1941 and 1943, and the chosen field is English Language and Literature. Included is a memorandum summarizing the grants awarded to Ms. Qualls across 1939, 1940, 1941, and 1942, as well as handwritten notes: Splendid candidate. Excellent record [illegible] and Is asking for only $375 to complete work for her MA. This would be an extension rather than a renewal.
