An application from James Warren Prothro, requesting a grant beginning September 1947. The plan of work was to do specialized study of Southern political theory and write a dissertation on the use of religion by demagogues as a technique of manipulating public opinion, and to obtain a Ph.D. degree at Princeton University under the supervision of Harwood L.Childs and Alpheus T. Mason. Mr. Prothro reapplied for another grant beginning September 1948. These applications were submitted in 1947 and 1948, and the chosen field is Political Science. Included is a memorandum summarizing the grants awarded to Mr. Prothro across 1947 and 1948, as well as handwritten notes: This is clearly one of our best fellows [illegible] and [illegible] Top man. So Princeton the best place for him?.
