Title
Record of Fellowships Granted, Written Addendum, and Fellowship Application from Pearl Eileene Primus
Description
An application from Pearl Eileene Primus, requesting a grant beginning June 1947. The plan of work was to express the history and culture of the Negro people through dance, and to obtain a Ph.D. degree in Anthropology at Columbia University under Gene Weltfish. Ms. Primus reapplied for another grant beginning June 1948 towards interpreting James Welson Johnson's Gods Trombones [a collection of Negro sermons in verse] through dance. These applications were submitted in 1947 and 1948, and the chosen field is Dancing. Included is a memorandum summarizing the grant awarded to Ms. Primus in 1948, as well as a handwritten note: No doubt that this is one of the finest of current dancers [illegible].
