An application from Richard Harold Preece, requesting a grant beginning May 1942. The plan of work was to do research at Institute of Social Research, University of North Carolina and examine the racial attitudes in Southern labour unions. Mr. Preece reapplied for another grant beginning June 1947 towards writing a book emphasizing the positive changes being made in the South by citizens of both races. These applications were submitted in 1942 and 1947, and the chosen fields are Economics and Creative Writing. Included are handwritten notes: This man is already set as a writer. He's asking not a fellowship [illegible] and An interesting project. He doesn't seem to be either scholarship, journalism, or labor [illegible].
