Description
An application from Joseph Avery Pittman, requesting a grant beginning June 1942. The plan of work was to obtain a Ph.D.d egree at Columbia University under the supervision of Dr. Helen Walker. Mr. Pittman reapplied for another grant beginning June 1945 towards doing a study of the collection, interpretation, and utilization of information about students by Negro colleges, while working under Dr. Helen Walker and Dr. Irving Lorge. These applications were submitted in 1942 and 1945, and the chosen fields are Sociology and Education. Included are handwritten notes: No evidence of anything out of the ordinary [illegible] and Nothing here. We've turned him down with a C twice before.
