The plan of work was to complete research problem Development of Negro life in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with special reference to Race Relations, and to obtain a Doctor's degree in History at Ohio State University under the supervision of Professor Henry H. Simms. This application was submitted in 1945, and the chosen field is History. Included is a handwritten note: Washburne says good record, straight B [illegible].
