An application from Edward Nelson Palmer, requesting a grant towards studying the effects of unionization and mechanization upon the Negro automobile worker and his community organization, and to obtain a Ph.D. degree at the university of Michigan under the supervision of Department of Sociology. Mr. Palmer reapplied for a grant beginning July 1941 towards completing research dealing with the determination and measurements of factors associated with the excess of unemployment of Negro workers. These applications were submitted in 1939 and 1941, and the chosen field is Sociology. Included is a memorandum summarizing the grants awarded to Mr. Palmer across 1939 and 1941, as well as a record of professional career and a handwritten note: Good record.
