An application from Francis N. Nkrumah, requesting a grant beginning September 1943. The plan of work was to study the African background of the mind and thought of the New World Negro, with special reference to African and New York Negro group life, cultural elements and the impact of Western civilization upon them. This was to obtain a Ph.D. degree at the University of Pennsylvania under the supervision of Dr. Edgar A. Singer. This application was submitted in 1943, and the chosen field is Philosophy.
