An application from Bardin Hubert Nelson, requesting a grant towards making a detailed study of Union Parish in the State of Louisiana from a population standpoint with emphasis upon the educational and occupational status of the Negro, and to obtain a Master of Arts degree at Louisiana State University. Mr. Nelson reapplied for another grant beginning September 1943 towards obtaining a Ph.D. degree at Harvard University under the supervision of Mr. P.A. Sorokin. These applications were submitted in 1942 and 1943, and the chosen field is Sociology. Included is a memorandum from 1942, as well as a handwritten note: Very young, but an amazingly promising youngster [illegible].
