An application from Butler Alfonso Jones requesting a one-year grant in September 1943 to obtain a Ph.D. degree at Columbia University and do a study of restricted labor legislation in the south. Mr. Jones reapplied for another one-year grant from September 1947 towards obtaining a Ph.D. at New York University. Mr. Jones reapplied for another grant to investigate the effectiveness of political law as an instrument for changing group habits submitted in 1943, 1947, and 1948. Included is a memorandum of the grants awarded to Mr. Jones in 1947 and handwritten notes.
