An application from Robert Gwathmey, requesting a one-year grant for 1944 to spend the entire season in rural North Carolina, living with a farm family engaged in raising and harvesting cotton and tobacco. Mr. Gwathmey requested another one-year grant for 1945 to observe and depict the small fishing, crabbing, and oyster industries that spot the land adjacent to where the rivers run into Chesapeake Bay, Virginia. Also included is a memorandum summarizing the 1944 grant awarded, as well as a handwritten note regarding the application.
