An application from Lorenzo J. Greene, requesting a one-year grant in 1940 to develop a much-needed monograph on The New England Slave Trade, 1620-1788 tracing its origins, development, and abolition, while seeking the advice of Drs. Krout, Greene, and Carmon of Columbia University and Drs. Merk, Morison, and Schlesinger of Harvard University. Mr. Greene reapplied for another one-year grant, in 1943, to support a study of slavery in England, 1700-1784, under the supervision of Mr. Evarts B. Greene, Mr. John A. Krout, and Mr. Harry A. Carman. Also included is a memorandum summarizing the grants awarded in, as well as a handwritten note regarding the application.
