The documents contain fellowship applications from Walter Franklin Anderson, director of Music at Antioch College, dated 1942 and 1948. In 1942, the applicant applied for a one-year grant beginning in June to compose in music idioms discovered among negro groups in a northern industrial center and other related initiatives. Reapplied in 1948, and was awarded $600, a one-year grant beginning in June to develop a plan for the establishment of a community music school at Antioch College. Also included is a memorandum summarizing the grant award, as well as two handwritten evaluative notes, both assigning a grade of C and providing brief written assessments of the applications.
